During the lesson, the relationship between One Health and Economics was explored in depth, with particular attention to the new paradigm of sustainable enterprise, known as B Lab. This paradigm aims to help businesses create both economic and environmental value by promoting an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy that supports companies, investors, and institutions. In this context, B Corporations (B Corps) are companies that operate with the intention of generating a positive impact not only in terms of profit but also on society and the environment. The key tool for implementing this paradigm is the B Impact Assessment (BIA). This tool is based on five areas of analysis: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers, and it allows companies to obtain the B Corp Certification—an official recognition granted by B Lab. This certification is awarded to businesses that undergo a thorough assessment of their impacts, distinguishing them as companies committed to social and environmental benefit. In this way, B Corps are recognized as examples of corporate responsibility, demonstrating that it is possible to combine economic success with social value. Finally, the topic of benefit corporations was also analyzed with specific reference to Italy, examining the relevant legal framework, which allows companies to register as benefit corporations—legal entities that pursue common benefit objectives by integrating social and environmental goals into their corporate bylaws alongside economic objectives.
